| A decade or two back, every match fisherman had an Abu 501 in their tackle box. It was THE trotting reel. It was never produced in a right hand wind version, so us left handers were always at a serious disadvantage. Since that time ABU have produced two or three replacements to the beloved 501, but they've just never lived up to expectations. This latest version could just be different. It feels right, it looks right, and it still doesn't come in a right hand wind version, so I can't tell you what it's like to fish with. Supplied with an aluminium match spool (100yds / 3lb line) and a conventional deep spool (100yds / 10lb). Don't ask me why it can't come with 2 shallow spools, it's an out and out trotting reel, who uses 10lb line with a stick float or waggler ??. | |
