These
comments are mainly for the club angler fishing matches on the Gold Valley complex.
Pleasure anglers have the luxury of choosing a swim away from other anglers,
and will catch lots of fish without my help, although this will give them some idea of the 'hot areas'. Gold Lake Standing at the club house, looking down Gold Lake, peg 1 is the first swim on the right hand side, pegs around 25 - 26 are at the far end, running back to peg 45 in the near left hand corner. Peg 1 is good for feeder / big waggler towards the steps, plus close in towards vegetation on left hand bank. Pegs 3/4 & 6 feeder to the points of the island Pegs 7 - 18 can all be good on their day, feeder, waggler, close in Pegs 19 - 29 IF a warm wind is blowing down to the far end of the lake, AND a lucky black cat ran in front of you on your way to the match AND you just stood in a pile of doggy poo then you just might win a match here, but I prefer to see other good anglers draw these pegs thank you very much. Pegs 30 - 45 Very consistent, several islands to cast to, and all methods work on this bank. Middle Lake This is NOT my favourite lake, although I do seem to draw on it a lot !. It doesn't suit my close in style. Waggler, long pole or feeder seems to win all of the matches on here. Looking down the lake from the club house, peg 46 is the first peg on the right hand bank, going down to pegs 64- 65 at the far end, and coming back to 82 on the near left. The pegs at the near end of the lake, around the islands, look to be absolute fliers, but they're real feast or famine pags, either bag-up city or totally devoid of fish. By far the most consistent pegs on this lake are around the middle, on either bank. As on any carp fishery, the ends can be very good when the wind is blowing in to them, but on other days they are desperate, so if you're pleasure fishing then go for the ends with the wind blowing in to them. Syndicate Lake My favourite of the three main match fishing lakes at Gold Valley, this lake has produced more match winning weights than the other two. Pegs start at 83, and run down the near bank to peg 100 and 101, then back up the far side. Pegs between 96 and 110 are all excellent, with peg 100 probably winning more matches than any other peg on the complex. During the colder months the vast majority of the huge stock of fish in this lake moves to the far end, and you'd be very very unlucky to draw one of these and not have a good days sport. A lot of the pegs in this lake are quite deep in close (4 ft - 6 ft), just perfect for fishing close in with a running line. Gold Lake & Middle hold most of the very big carp, but the close-in fish in Syndicate average around 5 lbs - 7 lbs, making it easy to build up a very big match weight. Bat Lake This lake is mostly pleasure fished, but there are some matches where Bat is included. The lake holds quite a good selection of fish, with lots of crucian carp, bream and tench as well as the carp. The three or four pegs on the short right hand (canal) bank are excellent, and produce many fine weights. |
