There are two undisputable facts about Old Bury Hill. The first
is that the main lake there is the prettiest day ticket water in the South East,
and the other is that the breakfast there is equalled only by Maria's
at Willow Park. There, now you know where my priorities are !!. The fishery
consists of three lakes, the main Old Bury Hill Lakeof 12 acres, the 30 peg
Milton Lake, and 20 peg Bonds Lake.
Although they do have some matches at Old Bury Hill, especially
on the smaller lakes at weekends, this fishery is a pleasure anglers paradise.
The main lake holds vast numbers of Tench and Bream, plus some
big Carp, and there is excellent Pike and Zander fishing in the winter. Two
anglers fishing from a boat in 'The Jungle' this Spring caught 220 tench best
8lb 11ozs for a conservative total of 500lbs. The owner
David DeVere estimates that there are 450 double figure carp, with 50 20's and
the two biggest just topping 30lbs. Pike to 30lbs and Zander to 16lbs provide
plenty of entertainment during the winter months.
There is a fishing tackle shop (nothing wriggling, but corn, pellets and groundbait for sale), spotless Ladies and Gents toilets, and an excellent cafe.
