The Willow Park brochure says "Willow Park is probably the most prolific mixed fishery available on a day ticket in the country". Well, who am I to argue?. My club Leatherhead & District A.S. has already booked FOUR matches there for next season, and our Saturday league, a series of six matches, has booked Willow Park for ALL of the matches. I'm a fan !.
The fishery consists of three lakes, with the main lake being 10 acres, and the two smaller Middle and Small Lakes, being 1.5 and 1 acre respectively. The lakes are open from dawn to dusk, giving a full 17 hours fishing in midsummer. There is a cafe (more later) and a well stocked shop for fishing tackle and bait. Two bailiffs are always on hand to give helpful and friendly advice. Ladies and Gents toilets are situated close to the lakes, as are the car parks.
This was John Raison's original fishery, but recently it was sold to another member of the Raison clan, 'Tosh White'. It is run by England International Steve Gardener, probably the best angler to have never won the world championship, and Ken Collings, the nicest man I have ever met inside or outside the sport. A former top matchman, he has now turned his back on the match scene, and is happy to do a bit of fly fishing, and to run his beloved Willow Park.Kenny (or KC as he is known throughout the country) will help anyone to improve their catches, and here's a man who really knows what he's talking about. He's there every weekend, and one or two days in the week, and at the weekends the cafe, manned by his better half Maria, serves a breakfast equalled only by Dave de Vere's spread at Old Bury Hill. In case you don't know Kenny, if you walk in the door and bump into the end of someones nose, you've found him. Tell him Ross sent you, I might get a free coffee next time I'm there !!.
